How did you arrive at NCM?
It was a massive change of career for me. What attracted me to this was that I had been serving as the president of my condominium board where I lived. I had been serving on the board for a number of years and as president for three or four years by that time. With my interactions with our condo manager, it seemed like it was something that I could probably do and that I would be interested in doing. At that time, NCM was managing the property where I lived. Maria told me the ups and the downs – the fact that I would be working a lot of evenings — and that I would have to step down from my board (still an NCM client).
What’s the most rewarding aspect of the job?
When someone comes to me and says ”I really like the way you handled this. Kudos on you.” Sometimes it’s board members. Sometimes it’s residents. Solving the problem, in and of itself, is rewarding. So is completing projects. Since the licensing came in (2023) it seems like we have a huge deficit of condo managers in the industry. There are not enough to go around. The result is that each manager has more properties, which can mean an increased workload. I’m hoping that can turn around. Hopefully, more people will get interested in taking the licensing and getting into the industry. I’m really hoping for that! I’m proud to be part of NCM. Our reputation is steadily improving and I’m quite proud of that. What I love most about the job is the people. That’s easy!
